BRIEF: Dr. Martens plans Gold Coast store

Sept. 08--Hey, ho, Dr. Martens, the durable footwear favored by rockers for decades, is coming to the Gold Coast.

Last week, the British footwear brand got a business license from the city of Chicago for 1133 N. State St. The shoe company currently has a store at 1561 N. Milwaukee Ave., in Wicker Park.

Dr. Martens didn't respond to requests for comment.

The company's website lists part-time jobs for a "new" State Street store, and a help-wanted ad on Craigslist by Dr. Martens also mentions a new store at that address. The space was once occupied by Flight 001, which moved to 1616 N. Damen Ave.

Dr. Martens' owner was bought in January 2014 by a group led by private equity firm Permira, whose brands also include luxury fashion line Hugo Boss. In August 2014 Dr. Martens got a new chief executive, whose prior jobs included Vans and Reebok.

"Since iconic British footwear brand Dr. Martens was acquired in 2014, it has gained strong momentum with its global growth plans," Permira says on its website.
