BRIEF: Downers Grove library reopens after evacuation

Dec. 03--The Downers Grove Public Library reopened about 6 p.m. Wednesday after officials closed the facility because they found a package described as suspicious.

Downers Grove Police completed their search of the building and the package that was reported, according to a statement from library officials.

No additional information was immediately available.

The library at 1050 Curtiss Street was evacuated starting at 2:49 p.m. Wednesday and remained closed around 4 p.m.

Police Chief Kurt Bluder said he could not provide details of what the package was like except to say that it was discovered in a room that is open to the public.

The DuPage County Sheriff's Department bomb squad was called to investigate.

"We saw the package and called the police, the building was evacuated by 3 p.m.," said Melissa Doornbos, a library spokesperson.
