BRIEF: Donn Roach to start Saturday; Cubs sign 3rd-round pick Bryan Hudson

July 02--Donn Roach will get another shot as he will start Saturday for the Chicago Cubs against the Miami Marlins.

Roach lasted only 3 1/3 innings Saturday in his Cubs debut at St. Louis, but manager Joe Maddon felt Roach pitched better than the four runs he was charged with.

Maddon referred to a grounder by Michael Wacha that Roach touched and prevented Starlin Castro from fielding and probably turning into a double play.

The Cardinals went on to score two more runs and roll to an 8-1 win.

Roach was in the bullpen but didn't pitch the past three games, thus preserving his start.

The Cubs also announced the signing of 6-foot-8 left-hander Bryan Hudson of Alton High School. Hudson, who signed a letter of intent to Missouri, posted a 10-2 record with five shutouts and an 0.50 ERA. Hudson struck out 152 in 70 1/3 innings.

MLB.com reported Hudson received a $1.1 million bonus.
