BRIEF: Don't expect Hannibal Buress to talk about phones at his shows

Jan. 29--He's been on TV and in the movies but a recent Samsung commercial seems to have put comedian Hannibal Buress on the map with his friends from Chicago.

"I started having people hit me up out of nowhere. Somebody from high school wrote me and said, 'Hey man, saw that commercial, real cool stuff. I gotta come check out a show,'" Buress told Jimmy Kimmel on his talk show Thursday.

"So he wants to check out my standup based on seeing a cellphone commercial, and I think it would be weird if he came to my show and then just was disappointed that I wasn't talking about phones."

Buress, who grew up on the West Side and attended Steinmetz College Prep on the Northwest Side, promotes Samsung Pay in a commercial released earlier this month. He also stars with Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell in the comedy "Daddy's Home," out last month.

He is set to debut his Netflix special "Comedy Camisado" Feb. 5 that will include some bits cut from his 2014 "Live from Chicago" special taped at the Vic Theatre.

"Jimmy Kimmel Live" airs weeknights at 10:35 p.m. on ABC.
