BRIEF: Domestic violence charges dismissed against Carolina's Greg Hardy

Feb. 09--Prosecutors in North Carolina have dropped domestic violence charges against Panthers Pro Bowl defensive end Greg Hardy because his accuser has not made herself available to help with the case.

Hardy's ex-girlfriend, Nicole Holder, did not show up for Monday's hearing at the Mecklenburg County Courthouse, where Hardy was to appeal his 2014 conviction.

In a statement explaining why the charges were dismissed, the district attorney's office cited "reliable information" that Holder and Hardy had reached a settlement.

Hardy received $13.1 million last season as Carolina's franchise player, despite playing just one game. He was deactivated in Week 2 because of his legal situation and then was placed on the commissioner's exempt list for the remainder of the season.

The NFL said Monday that Hardy's status remains unchanged pending league review.
