Nov. 17--The Chicago Tribune Media Group's Lake County News-Sun reports: Patrons of the Libertyville Sports Complex got an unexpected treat when hundreds of dogs took over half the building's main floor to compete in a series of obstacle courses.
The competition was hosted by Wisconsin-Illinois Agility Group (WAG), a regional organization that trains dogs for competitions and operates courses that are certified by the American Kennel Association, an international dog advocacy group.
In each course, a dog runs through tunnels, in between cones, up and across high beams and over teeter-totters and hurdles. Each owner runs alongside the dog, giving commands.
"It's all about teamwork," said Mary VanderBloomen, event organizer for WAG. "Yes, discipline is a big factor, but most people teach their pets some level of commands. This is about your ability to properly communicate what the dog needs to do as you move through the course."
