Dec. 06--The Dodgers have hired Nick Francona, who spent 2014 working in the Angels front office and handling instant-replay duties during games in the first half of the season, to be their assistant director of player development, the Angels confirmed Friday.
Francona, 29, son of Cleveland Indians Manager Terry Francona, will work under recently hired Dodgers player development director Gabe Kapler, who played 12 seasons in the major leagues.
The Angels hired Francona in late 2013 to be their coordinator of major league player information, a position that included some advance scouting and statistical analysis. Jeremy Zoll, who handled replay duties while Francona focused on scouting and player development, will take over replay duties full time.
Prior to joining the Angels, Francona, a 2008 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business, spent three years as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps, including most of 2011 in Afghanistan as commander of a scout-sniper platoon.
