Dec. 18--Clippers point guard Chris Paul is what they call a true point guard -- he always looks to pass first.
Coach Doc Rivers wants to tweak that a bit.
He wants Paul to look to shoot first.
Paul finished with 20 points on 7-for-14 shooting and nine assists in the Clippers' 102-100 win over the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday. He played especially aggressive offense in the fourth quarter, when the Clippers went on a 12-2 run and held the Pacers scoreless for nearly four minutes, turning a six-point deficit into a four-point advantage.
"Down the stretch he was really aggressive, and all of the sudden we got really good," Rivers said of Paul, who finished with six points in the fourth quarter.
Rivers acknowledged that he drives Paul a bit crazy sometimes with how much he encourages him to shoot.
Not that that's going to stop the coach from riding his superstar.
"I believe in the aggressive point guard," Rivers said. "I just think it puts so much pressure on the defense every time. But I can't argue, he's a great player and he's been more aggressive this year."
