BRIEF: DNA leads to murder charges in 1994 stabbing

Dec. 21--DNA evidence has led to murder charges against a Boulder, Colo., man in the 1994 stabbing death of a 28-year-old woman in her Lakeview apartment, authorities said Saturday.

David Ramirez-Martinez, 45, has been charged with first-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of Bonnie Boudouvas on May 14, 1994, in her home in the 3900 block of North Ashland Avenue, police said in a news release. Ramirez-Martinez was ordered held without bail in a hearing Saturday.

Boudouvas, who lived on the second floor of a two-flat, was found dead in her bathtub after her neighbors in the first-floor apartment investigated the source of water dripping through their ceiling, police said at the time of her death. Boudouvas had been stabbed numerous times in the chest with a knife, according to court documents. Police at the time said it was possible she was strangled.

Detectives linked Ramirez-Martinez to the killing through a DNA match, and a warrant was issued for his arrest, police said. He was extradited this week from Boulder and arrested upon arriving at O'Hare International Airport.
