BRIEF: Director Garry Marshall likes to show off Northwestern fandom on set

March 24--It's been 60 years since he graduated from Northwestern University, but director Garry Marshall is still showing off his fandom.

Marshall, 81, was draped in Northwestern gear on set during the recent filming of his movie "Mother's Day," star Cameron Esposito said. Marshall graduated from the Medill School of Journalism in 1956.

"He was wearing a Northwestern hat and sweatshirt because he went to Northwestern. That's a huge thing for him. And his college roommates were on set watching him shoot," Esposito told Entertainment Weekly in a story posted online Thursday.

Esposito, who grew up in Western Springs, plays Max, who is married to Sarah Chalke's character. "Mother's Day," which also stars Jennifer Aniston and Jason Sudeikis, is due out April 29. The cast filmed in Atlanta in the fall.

Meanwhile, Esposito's comedy special "Marriage Material" premiered Thursday on Seeso, NBCUniversal Digital Enterprises' streaming comedy channel.

Esposito, 34, filmed the two-hour special at Thalia Hall days before marrying fellow comedian Rhea Butcher at The Hideout.

"We served pizza and Chicago-style veggie dogs and just danced. It was really fun," Esposito said.
