BRIEF: Device with protruding wires at South L.A. courthouse: No, not a bomb

March 09--A courthouse in South L.A. was briefly evacuated Monday morning after someone called in a bomb threat and a device with protruding wires was found, LAPD officials said.

The call came in about 9:30 a.m. and warned of a bomb at the courthouse in the 1900 block of South Hill Street, said Officer Norma Eisenman. The building was partially evacuated, and authorities examined the object.

The device with wires was determined to be a piece from an electrical transformer, authorities said. No explosive device was found, and the scene was cleared about 11:30 a.m.

The investigation temporarily suspended service on the Metro Blue Line and Expo Line through the area.
