Feb. 16--A driver was arrested Monday on suspicion of murder after he allegedly struck and killed a man who was jogging in Walnut, authorities said.
Just before 6 a.m., Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies received a 911 call from a Walnut resident who said a car crashed into the brick wall outside his house in the 20200 block of Barnard Avenue, Deputy Sara Rodriguez said in a prepared statement.
A man was driving east on La Puente Road at 5:52 a.m. when he struck a man jogging in the bike lane, Rodriguez said. The driver carried the jogger on the hood of his 1989 Toyota Camry for "several yards" before crashing into the wall.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has been withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The male adult driver, who did not appear to be injured, was detained at the scene for questioning by detectives. He was later arrested, and his identity was being withheld by investigators, according to the Sheriff's Department.
Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call the Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
