Feb. 27--A suspect in the killing of a man whose body was found just hours before in the Angeles National Forest turned himself in to U.S. Customs and Border Protection authorities, officials said.
David Aldana, 21, surrendered at the San Ysidro Port of Entry into San Diego. He admitted that he had killed a man in Canyon Country, according Deputy Lisa Jansen, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Aldana later agreed to show detectives where he had dumped the fatally wounded man in the forest.
The shooting was reported at 10 a.m. at mile marker 7.98 on Sand Canyon Road. Deputies arrived to find the victim man suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso.
Aldana was booked into the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Department jail on $1-million bail. He was arrested on suspicion of murder, Jansen said.
According to the Los Angeles Times' Homicide Report, there have been six other people killed in the Tujunga Canyons area of the Angeles National Forest since Jan. 1, 2000.
