BRIEF: DePaul's Brittany Hrynko named Big East women's player of year

March 03--Senior guard Brittany Hrynko has become the first DePaul woman to be named the Big East basketball player of the year.

Hrynko, from Philadelphia, was the conference's leading scorer (20.3 points per game.) She also led the league in steals and was second in assists.

The last Blue Demon woman to earn a similar conference honor was Kim Williams in 1997, when DePaul was a member of Conference USA.

DePaul, No. 2 seed in the Big East tournament Saturday-Tuesday at Allstate Arena, has a first-round bye. The Blue Demons (23-7, 15-3 Big East) meet the Georgetown-Xavier winner Sunday at 6 p.m.

The Blue Demons shared the conference's regular-season title with Seton Hall, which got the top seed for winning both its games against DePaul.
