April 10--New DePaul men's basketball head coach Dave Leitao has hired Xavier assistant Rick Carter as associate head coach, the school announced in a statement on Friday.
Carter joins assistant Billy Garrett, who Leitao retained from Oliver Purnell's staff when Leitao took over the program on March 29.
"Both Rick and Billy bring extensive recruiting experience locally in Chicago, regionally in the Midwest and throughout the nation," Leitao said in a statement.
Carter served on Xavier head coach Chris Mack's staff the past two seasons as a Midwest recruiter. Before coaching for the Musketeers, Carter worked at Missouri, Western Michigan and Fairfield, and was a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Michigan State.
The Grand Blanc, Mich., native also served as Fairfield's director of basketball operations and assistant coach, working with current Providence coach Ed Cooley for two seasons.
Leitao previously coached the Blue Demons for three seasons, the last ending in 2005.
