Feb. 11--Peyton Manning may be taking steps toward being ready to play an 18th NFL season, but he apparently isn't the only Denver Broncos player mulling his future in the sport.
According to Fox Sports, veteran wide receiver Wes Welker is considering retirement after a disappointing 2014 season that started off badly when he suffered a preseason concussion -- his third since joining the team in 2012.
The 33-year-old's production slid significantly during the season, and he hasn't told the Broncos whether he plans to return next season. Welker is scheduled to become a free agent next month.
Welker was limited to 49 catches for 464 yards and two touchdowns this season. His yard total was the second-lowest tally of his career. In 2013, he made 73 catches for 778 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Over his 11-year career, Welker has 9,822 receiving yards and 50 touchdown catches.
Welker could be waiting for Manning to announce his future plans. Manning hasn't said publicly if he plans to return for an 18th NFL season, but signs are pointing toward his return.
