BRIEF: DeMarco Murray could return Sunday for Dallas Cowboys

Dec. 19--The Dallas Cowboys might have to play another week without the NFL's leading rusher. Or they might not.

DeMarco Murray is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts after having surgery Monday to repair a broken bone in his left hand.

But Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told KLRD-FM in Dallas on Friday that he was "pretty positive" Murray could play Sunday. And Cowboys Coach Jason Garrett was staying optimistic about Murray's chances of returning.

"He's trying to work his way back -- he just had surgery a couple days ago," Garrett said. "So, I think, again, his mind is right, he has a long away to go, we'll take it day by day, and we'll see how he is come game time."

Murray, who has racked up 1,687 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns in 14 games this season, took part in expanded workouts Thursday and Friday after working out individually on Wednesday. Murray needs just 87 yards to break Emmitt Smith's single-season franchise record of 1,773 yards.

Having Murray back on the field could be a big help for the Cowboys, who are looking to clinch a playoff berth with a win over Indianapolis, the AFC South champions. Dallas has won four of its last five games.
