BRIEF: Delays reported on Metra West Line after train hits semi

Nov. 07--A Union Pacific West Line Metra train struck a semitruck Thursday afternoon in the West Garfield Park neighborhood, causing temporary delays, officials said.

While no injuries were reported, Chicago Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene just before 5 p.m., said Chief Juan Hernandez, department spokesman.

According to Metra officials Train No. 45, which had left the Ogilvie Station at 4:35 p.m., clipped the back of the semitrailer. The accident happened at Kinzie Street and Kilbourn Avenue, officials said.

Trains traveling to Chicago, Geneva, West Chicago, La Fox and Elburn will be delayed departing and arriving due to the accident, officials said. Train No. 54, scheduled to arrive Chicago at 4:50 p.m., is also stopped near Kilbourn Avenue.

By 7:30 p.m. trains were running again but were delayed 15 to 80 minutes.
