BRIEF: Delays reported on Metra North Central line after train hits vehicle in Grayslake

Dec. 13--Metra's North Central Service line is delayed after a train hit an unoccupied vehicle on the tracks in Grayslake during the evening rush hour commute Friday.

Outbound train No. 109 hit an unoccupied vehicle in Grayslake at 5:50 p.m., said Tom Miller, a Metra spokesman. It was scheduled to reach Antioch at 6:05 p.m.

"The train should be moving shortly," Miller said. "They are waiting for a tow to get the car off the tracks."

There are no injuries reported and it's unknown why the vehicle was left unoccupied on the tracks, Miller said.

The incident is also delaying trains No. 111 and 113, which were due in Lake Villa at 6:14 p.m. and Antioch at 6:27 p.m. and are stopped in Mundelein and Vernon Hills, respectively, according to the Metra website.
