April 08--A freight train derailment in Orange County late Tuesday forced delays and cancellations across the Metrolink commuter rail system Wednesday morning, with some residual delays expected during evening rush hour, officials said.
BNSF is currently repairing damage caused by a mile-long freight train that slipped off the track near the Imperial Highway overpass in Anaheim. The rails in that area are owned and maintained by BNSF, but used by commuter rail.
During the morning rush hour, eight Metrolink trains were canceled and 12 others delayed by more than a half hour, spokesman Scott Johnson said.
The majority of the delays were on the Inland Empire-Orange County line, which connects San Bernardino with Orange; and the Orange County line, which runs between Oceanside and downtown Los Angeles.

A BNSF spokeswoman did not return a request for comment.
Some passengers took to Twitter to complain that they hadn't known their trains were canceled until they arrived at the station.
"At least we have our phones to play with," one passenger tweeted, then posted a selfie.
