BRIEF: Defensive shifts hurt Cubs' offense in 4-2 loss

May 18--Proponents of defensive shifts must have been smiling Tuesday night after watching how the Milwaukee Brewers' alignments helped them seize a 4-2 victory over the Chicago Cubs.

Chase Anderson no-hit the Cubs for seven innings with lots of help from his perfectly placed defense.

"They shifted well," Cubs manager Joe Maddon said. "We hit right into the shift often."

Anthony Rizzo was robbed of a hit when third baseman Aaron Hill was positioned to the right of second base to catch a line drive for the first out of the second inning.

And Hill was well-positioned on the right side to field a grounder by Ben Zobrist for the second out of the fifth.

"That's part of the game today," Maddon said. "That's when you look at numbers, they can be skewed some times, based on what it look like years ago.

"They were hits, now they're outs. But I thought we had a lot of good at-bats that didn't go rewarded."
