BRIEF: Decision on Wrigley bleacher construction this weekend

Jan. 17--A decision on the completion of the renovated Wrigley Field bleachers could come as soon as this weekend.

The Cubs initially were going to wait until the first weekend in March, when individual tickets go on sale. But President Theo Epstein said a decision could come at Cubs Convention.

"There's a good chance that the guys on the business side are going to address that for our fans this weekend," Epstein told the "Spiegel and Mannelly Show'' on WSCR-AM 670. "Obviously, they're thinking ahead and want to be respectful of our fans and put them in position to enjoy the game.

"They'll have some news on that front. As long as we're allowed to hit the ball into the bleachers in April, that's the most important thing for us. But our business side will take good care of our fans."

If the bleachers aren't ready by the April 5 opener against the Cardinals, which has been anticipated because of weather delays and replacing an old water main, fans who own season tickets in the bleachers will be relocated to the grandstand.
