BRIEF: Debris that disrupted Blue Line service for 2 hours was tire stuck under train

March 21--CTA trains were halted between the Harlem and Jefferson Park stops for nearly two hours Monday morning after a tire on the tracks became wedged underneath a train, the agency said.

Shuttle buses were used between the two stops, but the CTA urged riders to use the 88 Higgins and the 56 Milwaukee buses as alternates. Trains were running again by 9:20 a.m., but significant delays were reported.

The agency said power had to be switched off so crews could remove the tire from under the train.

Commuters at the Jefferson Park station complained there was only one announcement over the public address system. Many of them angrily waited in line to get yellow late slips from the one CTA worker handing them out.

"I've been here for half an hour," said Whitney Staples, 26. "Now I have to pay for a cab."
