Sept. 07--The death of a man who was found in the West Town neighborhood in July has been ruled a homicide, officials said.
Amon Shannon, 40, was unresponsive when he was discovered inside a residence in the 2300 block of West Washington Boulevard around 5 p.m. July 10, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office. Shannon lived on the block where he was found, officials said.
Shannon's death was initially determined to be inconclusive pending a police investigation, according to the initial autopsy July 11.
Investigators later determined that Shannon died of a gunshot wound to his head, and his death was ruled a homicide, a Cook County medical examiner's office spokesman said recently.
A police source at the time of the initial investigation told WGN-TV the man died during a possible robbery attempt.
Area Central detectives opened a death investigation in connection with the incident.
