BRIEF: Death of man after fight at West Side home ruled a homicide

Nov. 12--An autopsy Thursday revealed a man who was found dead inside his Austin neighborhood apartment was strangled and beaten, officials said.

About 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, police responded to a battery in progress at an apartment in the 800 block of North Central Avenue. When they arrived, officers found an unresponsive man who was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Preliminary information indicated the man, later identified as Terrell Peterson, had been involved in a fight at the Central Avenue location. Peterson, 42, of the same address where he was killed, was pronounced dead at 7:24 a.m Wednesday., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

On Wednesday, a suspect believed to be involved in Peterson's death was taken into custody at a Greyhound bus station at 630 W. Harrison St., officials said.

An autopsy Thursday determined Peterson's cause of death was strangulation, with a secondary cause of death multiple blunt force injuries. His death was classified as a homicide, according to the medical examiner's office.

As of 3:45 p.m. Thursday, no one had been charged in Peterson's death.
