Jan. 30--An 18-year-old woman found dead Sunday in her Lansing apartment Sunday died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the Cook County medical examiner's office said Friday.
Police responding to the apartment in the 17700 block of Commercial Avenue about 11:15 a.m. Sunday found Summer Mitchell dead and recovered a semi-automatic pistol and a single spent shell casing next to her body.
The medical examiner's office ruled that Mitchell died from a gunshot wound to the chest and that her death was a suicide, a spokesperson said Friday.
