April 08--Jose Abreu's first homer of the season gave the White Sox an early lead, and the Sox added four ninth-inning runs to top the Athletics 6-1 on Thursday at Oakland Coliseum. The Sox hit six singles off A's right-hander Liam Hendriks in the ninth to improve to 3-1 for the first time since 2005.
At the plate
The Sox managed just two hits through the first five innings, but Kendall Graveman issued a leadoff walk to Melky Cabrera in the sixth before Abreu homered to right.
On the mound
Sox right-hander Mat Latos pitched six scoreless innings and held the A's hitless through 4 1/3 innings. After Sox left fielder J.B. Shuck dropped a ball in foul territory, Chris Coghlan singled to left for the only A's hit of the first six innings.
In relief
After Sox left-hander Zach Duke put runners on the corners to start the seventh inning, Matt Albers pitched the final two outs to hold the A's scoreless.
