July 06--For the first time in a decade, David Ortiz on Sunday was the Boston Red Sox's starting first baseman at Fenway Park.
Although for the team's regular designated hitter, it probably seemed pretty much like any other day.
For the first time in Red Sox history, the team did not record a put out by its first baseman, according to Elias Sports.
Ortiz did see a tiny bit of action during the Red Sox's 5-4 win over Houston, though. He fielded a grounder by Houston catcher Jason Castro and tossed the ball to pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez for the out.
At the plate, Ortiz was 0 for 3 with a walk and a run scored.
Big Papi started in place of slumping first baseman Mike Napoli. It was Ortiz's first start at first in a non-interleague game since Aug. 5, 2006, and first at Fenway since July 16, 2005.
