Aug. 12--A new touring Canadian show about one of the most beloved of fictional detectives will make its United States premiere in Chicago in November, Broadway in Chicago has announced. "Sherlock Holmes" will play the Oriental Theatre, 24 W. Randolph St., Nov. 24-29.
The famous London sleuth from 221B Baker Street will be played in the show by David Arquette, the 43-year-old American actor known for his appearance in such 1990s movies as "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and the "Scream" series.
Arquette released a dry statement about his latest gig. "Some may think I'm an odd choice," he said. "I am. I'm odd, but thankfully so is he."
The new show, which has not (yet) been on Broadway, features an original adaptation "inspired by" the work of the creator of Sherlock Holmes, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It's penned by Greg Kramer. The famous Holmesian sidekick, Dr. Watson, is to be played by Michael Trevino, an actor known for his work on "The Vampire Diaries." Andrew Shaver is the director of a steampunk-influenced production that was well-received in Montreal. The Canadian Corey Ross of Starvok is the lead producer. Individual tickets are not yet on sale.
