April 26--Perhaps all of those tearful goodbyes to Dave's Italian Kitchen were too soon. After Dave Glatt announced the closing of Dave's Italian Kitchen, an Evanston institution for 44 years, the outpouring of grief was intense. People showered the restaurant's Facebook page with stories about what the restaurant meant to them. When the Tribune chatted with Glatt last week, he discussed the possibility of writing a cookbook, but over the weekend, the story has changed.
In a recent post on Dave's Italian Kitchen's Facebook page, Glatt announced he's getting back in the restaurant business. As first reported by The Daily Northwestern, the new location will be significantly smaller than the last, with only 40 seats instead of 200. Glatt refers to it as a more streamlined operation. That includes the name, which will be shortened to Dave's IK.
Glatt hopes to open the restaurant in late May.
Dave's IK, 815 Noyes St., Evanston.
