BRIEF: Daley nephew starts own consulting firm

April 20--Peter Thompson, a nephew of former Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley and former chief executive of Perkins Investment Management, is starting his own firm, Magis Leadership Advisers.

Magis has three arms: consulting and advisory services, particularly to financial services firms; executive search; and leadership development.

Thompson stepped down at the end of 2014 as chief executive of Perkins Investment Management, an arm of Janus. He worked at Chicago-based Ariel Investments from 1994 to 2006.

So far, Thompson is listed as the only employee, but Magis' website lists testimonials from Freakonomics author Steven Levitt and Ariel Investments President Mellody Hobson.

Magis filed its incorporation papers with the state of Illinois in January 2015.

"I've spent virtually all of my 24-year professional career building and growing investment management teams and firms, while at the same time enjoyably serving in leadership roles in a variety of institutional and philanthropic interests," Thompson said.
