BRIEF: Cyclists bare all in downtown L.A. for World Naked Bike Ride

June 27--Hundreds of nude cyclists peddled through downtown Los Angeles on Saturday afternoon as part of World Naked Bike Ride, an international grass-roots movement to promote positive body image.

"Be as bare as you dare," declared the L.A. chapter's website.

On the streets, some riders covered their bodies in paint while others wore nothing but helmets and the smiles on their faces. According to the group's website, the event started at 12:30 p.m. at the corner of Baker and Spring streets. The route took riders in a "big figure 8" through downtown, along the L.A. River and Echo Park.

In the past, the event has been described as two parts protest, one part party.

LAPD officials said they were unaware of the bare-it-all bike ride.

Similar rides have taken place throughout the world, including England, Germany and throughout the U.S.
