Oct. 31--The Chicago Cubs' 40-man roster shrunk to 35 Thursday as reliever Carlos Villanueva filed for free agency, and the team declined the 2015 option on reliever Kyuji Fujikawa.
Villanueva, 30, completed a two-year deal and was 5-7 with a 4.64 ERA in 42 games. Fujikawa, 34, missed most of the past two seasons with a right elbow injury and had a 4.85 ERA in 15 appearances in 2014.
Fujikawa will receive a $500,000 buyout and becomes a free agent.
