Oct. 12--Playoff baseball returns to Wrigley Field for the first time in seven years, and Hot Doug's is ready.
The iconic encased-meat emporium closed its doors almost exactly a year ago (October 3, 2014), but in July, owner Doug Sohn teamed with Levy Restaurants to create a Hot Doug's concession stand directly behind Wrigley's center-field scoreboard, serving baseball-themed sausages created just for Cubs fans.
For Monday and Tuesday's playoff games (and, fingers crossed, for a few more after that), Hot Doug's has revived three of the most popular sausages of the regular season: The Carmen Fanzone (spicy Polish sausage with caramelized onions), Dave Kingman (a bacon-cheeseburger sausage with cola barbecue sauce and sharp cheddar) and the Bill Bonham (very spicy pork sausage with smoked gouda and cherry marmalade).
Assuming 1. You have bleacher tickets and 2. You're willing to take your eyes off the game for even a minute, these sandwiches are the best-tasting option you've got.
