March 27--MESA, Ariz. -- Jason Hammel regretted swinging at the first pitch when he faced James Shields while batting eighth in his last start.
Hammel lined out to third base, but he'll get another chance to show his hitting skills Friday when he faces the Chicago White Sox and former Cubs teammate Jeff Samardzija.
Hammel will bat eighth for the Cubs at Sloan Park.
