June 18--The Cubs officially signed first-round draft pick Ian Happ, who received a $3 million signing bonus, sources said.
Happ, a switch-hitting infielder-outfielder out of the University of Cincinnati, is expected to report to the Cubs' complex in Mesa, Arizona before starting off his pro career at Class-A Eugene.
The slotted value of the No. 9 pick was $3.351 million, so the Cubs can use the savings in signing their other picks.
