BRIEF: Cubs' Logan Watkins tweets he tore his Achilles' tendon

Feb. 05--Cubs infielder Logan Watkins reported via Twitter on Wednesday night that he tore his Achilles' tendon during a pre-spring training workout in Arizona.

"Devastated to say that I tore my Achilles today working out in Arizona," Watkins tweeted. "Hard to put into words how sad I am that I won't be a part of the ... great season the Cubs are prepared to have."

A Cubs spokesman declined to provide more information on the injury Thursday morning.

Watkins, 25, has played in 58 games for the Cubs over the last two seasons, hitting .233 with four doubles and 12 runs scored. He was stationed at Triple-A Iowa for most of last season, hitting .256 with 21 doubles, 59 runs scored and 23 stolen bases in 103 games. He played multiple positions in the infield and outfield during the 2014 season.

Cubs pitchers and catchers report to spring training on Feb. 19, and the first full-squad workout is set for Feb. 25.
