BRIEF: Cubs' Kyle Schwarber undergoes successful surgery in Dallas

April 20--Cubs sophomore slugger Kyle Schwarber underwent successful surgery on his left knee in Dallas on Tuesday.

Schwarber underwent a reconstruction of his anterior cruciate ligament and a repair of his lateral collateral ligament. The surgery was performed by Dr. Daniel Cooper, the head team physician for the Dallas Cowboys and one of the top orthopedic knee surgeons.

The procedure was deemed a success, and Schwarber is expected to make a full recovery.

Cooper has been in constant contact with Cubs team orthopaedist Stephen Gryzlo.

Schwarber, 23, suffered the season-ending injury while colliding with center fielder Dexter Fowler on a drive hit by Jean Segura of the Arizona Diamondbacks on April 7. Schwarber hit 16 home runs in 69 games for the Cubs last season and hit five during the National League playoffs.
