Oct. 01--Joe Maddon has been adamant about giving his position players rest in preparation for the playoffs, but the Chicago Cubs' manager is taking matters one step further.
Leadoff batter Dexter Fowler won't start Wednesday night against the Cincinnati Reds. The bigger surprise is that rookie Kyle Schwarber will bat leadoff for only the second time this season.
Schwarber batted leadoff at San Francisco on Aug. 26, going 2-for-4 with a infield double and stolen base.
Austin Jackson will bat second and play center field. Right fielder Jorge Soler, who is 5-for-21 since returning from the disabled list on Sept. 17, will bat sixth and play right field.
