July 26--Kris Bryant was asked about Cole Hamels' no-hitter against the Cubs Saturday and if he was aware of Sandy Koufax's 1965 perfect game against the Cubs.
"I am too young for that," Bryant said with a smile before Sunday's series finale.
But Bryant could vividly remember Hamels' wicked repertoire of pitches in Saturday's 5-0 decision at Wrigley Field.
"He was throwing really well," Bryant said. "All of his pitches were getting over the plate really well ... he was really good. There was a lot more life on his fastball."
Hamels threw 129 pitches, the last of which was blasted to the warning track by Bryant. Center fielder Odubel Herrera broke back to the wall, then lunged forward to make a diving catch to end the game.
"The wind is a big thing, a big factor here and I am still learning," Bryant said. "There will be games like this through the year."
The Cubs are trying to salvage a win in the weekend series against the last-place Phillies, but Saturday's historic moment still has fans buzzing.
"I guess we're part of history now," Bryant said. "We were just on the wrong side of it."
