BRIEF: Wednesday's recap: Indians 5, Cubs 3

March 10--Ace Jake Arrieta tossed two dominant innings, but the Cubs managed only five hits in a 5-3 loss to the Indians at Sloan Park. The Cubs have lost six consecutive games.

At the plate

Switch-hitting third baseman Jeimer Candelario showed his power with a home run to center field in the fifth. John Andreoli, who had a .372 on-base percentage at Triple-A Iowa last season, hit a two-run homer with two out in the ninth.

On the mound

Pierce Johnson gave up two runs on three hits (including a home run) and two walks in the third, his only inning. Left-hander Rex Brothers threw 16 of 26 pitches for balls in the ninth.

In the field

Edgar Olmos picked Michael Martinez off first base, but the Cubs needed six more throws to tag Martinez for the final out in the fourth. Among the players who were involved in the rundown were Rizzo, second baseman Ben Zobrist and shortstop Addison Russell.
