June 03--MIAMI -- Kyle Schwarber, the Cubs' first pick in the 2014 draft, and Ryan Williams were named the Chicago Cubs' minor league player and pitcher for the month of May.
Schwarber, a catcher at Double-A Tennessee, batted .297 with two doubles, eight home runs, 17 runs and 18 RBIs in 28 games in May. Schwarber also drew 24 walks, which helped him post a 1.026 on-base/slugging percentage and .443 on-base percentage.
Schwarber is batting .312 with 12 home runs and 32 RBIs for the Smokies.
Williams was 2-1 with a 1.59 ERA in five starts for Class-A South Bend in May. Williams struck out 23 without allowing a walk in 34 innings (125 batters faced).
Williams entered play Wednesday with a 4-1 record and 1.17 ERA in nine games for South Bend, and he has limited opponents to a .190 batting average. He has struck out 37 and walked two in 53 2/3 innings.
