Cubs Game Day: Wada hurt in 7-4 loss

March 14--Indians 7, Cubs 4

Spring record: 1-8-1

The summary: In a split-squad game at Sloan Park, the Cubs never recovered from 6-1 deficit after four innings. Their pitching staff was stretched after Tsuyoshi Wada reinjured his groin after allowing a run in the first inning.

At the plate: Shortstop Gleyber Torres, one of the top lower-level prospects, hit an RBI double in the ninth. Matt Szczur, known more for his speed, hit a home run.

On the mound: Reliever Justin Grimm struck out three but allowed two runs on two hits in 1 1/3 innings.

In the field: Infielder Jeimer Candelario, considered one of the organization's top defenders, was charged with a fielding error.

Key number: 7 -- Pitchers used by the Cubs.

The quote: Coach/interim manager Dave Martinez: "I enjoy it. I enjoy being on the field and enjoy teaching and aspects of the game. Being next to Joe Maddon, who over the past 10 years has showed me so much just the off-field on how to handle different situations, for me I've been blessed to be around a guy like that for so many years."

vs: Athletics, 12:05 p.m., Saturday at Cashman Field: RH Kyle Hendricks vs. RH Jesse Hahn.

vs: Brewers, 1:05 p.m., Saturday at Maryvale: RH Edwin Jackson vs. RH Jimmy Nelson.
