May 22--SAN DIEGO -- After five relievers were needed to preserve a 3-2 victory, Kyle Hendricks will be needed to pitch deep as the Chicago Cubs try to take the third and deciding game of their series at San Diego.
Hendricks has pitched six innings in only one of his seven starts. He came close in his last start on Friday against the Pittsburgh Pirates but was pulled after 5 2/3 innings and 99 pitches in a game the Cubs eventually won 11-10 in 12 innings.
Hendricks left with a 7-4 lead and believes he's ready to clear the six-inning barrier.
"The last few starts I been feeling way better," Hendricks said. "My bullpens have been very good. It's turning. I know it is. The confidence is coming back."
