Sunday's recap: Cubs 5, Reds 2

April 27--The summary

Behind a solo home run by Miguel Montero in the second inning and a three-run double by rookie Addison Russell in the fourth, the Cubs pulled away Sunday to a 5-2 win over the Reds and completed a 4-2 trip.

At the plate

Jorge Soler continues to chase pitches out of the strike zone, and he paid the price by striking out on a pitch from Anthony DeSclafani after Dexter Fowler hit a soft single to start the game.

On the mound

Jake Arrieta retired the first 11 batters but ran into trouble in the fourth and fifth innings, when he allowed four hits and three walks. Despite needing 58 pitches in the fourth and fifth, Arrieta managed to pitch six innings.

In the field

Shortstop Starlin Castro made a diving backhanded stop and threw on one knee to retire Brennan Boesch to start the sixth.

Key number

100 -- Career home runs by Montero.

The quote

"(Russell) watches at-bats. He's had some at-bats where he looks a little uncertain, but the next time he comes up, he's putting some great swings on the ball. Those are things we expect. Some bumps and bruises along the way, but at the same time quality at-bats." -- Arrieta.
