Sept. 09--The grounds crew workers are waiting for approval to spool the tarp in anticipation of starting Tuesday night's game between the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals at moist Busch Stadium.
The Cubs were informed that showers could develop between a five-hour window, but they'd like a chance to extend their four-game winning streak as Jason Hammel takes the mound against Michael Wacha.
Before the game, Cubs manager Joe Maddon said that rookie slugger Kyle Schwarber should be available to pinch-hit and could return to the starting lineup in Wednesday's series finale.
Schwarber has not played since Tuesday, one day before he suffered right rib soreness.
Meanwhile, general manager Jed Hoyer would like his team to not look ahead even though they're moving closer to securing a National League wild card berth.
"We're 85 percent or so through a race, and we got to finish it off," Hoyer said. "There no point in thinking about a higher position or where you are. Just keep playing hard and keep playing well, and things will take care of themselves."
