April 16--The Chicago Cubs will start their fourth third baseman of the young season Wednesday night when Arismendy Alcantara takes over when they face the Cincinnati Reds.
Alcantara originally was scheduled to start at second base but switched with Jonathan Herrera, who has started at third the past three games after Mike Olt suffered a sore right wrist.
And the Cubs aren't done exploring other options at third base other than Kris Bryant, who can be promoted from Triple-A Iowa as early as Friday without the Cubs losing him to free agency no earlier than after 2021.
Third string catcher Welington Castillo worked out at third base, and manager Joe Maddon said it's possible Castillo could enter the game there at some point soon.
On Monday, left fielder Chris Coghlan moved to third base, and he finished Tuesday's game at second base.
"Game in progress, when you're losing, you'll do anything," Maddon said. "Tuesday night, we almost pulled it off. I like when everyone becomes involved."
