April 25--Reds 3, Cubs 2 (sixth inning)
The summary: The Cubs and Reds are wearing throwback uniforms Friday night to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Reds' 1990 World Series title. After Anthony Rizzo hit a two-run home run in the fourth, the Reds countered with a run on a sacrifice fly by Zack Cozart to take a 3-2 lead.
At the plate: Mike Leake retired the first nine Cubs batters with plenty of movement on his fastball. Starlin Castro was robbed of an extra base hit when speedy Billy Hamilton made a running catch in right center to end the fifth.
On the mound: Jon Lester has struck out a season-high eight through the first five innings, but Hamilton has caused havoc with two singles, three stolen bases and two runs.
In the field: The Cubs positioned rookie Addison Russell to play deep at second base, and it paid off when he made a diving stop and throw to retire Hamilton in the fifth.
Key number: 4 -- Innings in which the leadoff man has reached base safely against Jon Lester.
The quote: "It's not just about him. It's our starters, in general, getting a little bit deeper into games is all we need to get on a nice roll." -- Maddon.
