Sept. 20--Addison Russell's diving stop and flip to second ended a Cardinals rally in the ninth inning Saturday and sealed a 5-4 victory for the Cubs at Wrigley Field. The Cubs closed to within half a game of the first National League wild-card spot, pending the Pirates' late game in Los Angeles.
On the mound
Trevor Cahill pitched 31/3 innings of scoreless relief on bullpen day to notch his first victory as a Cub. Travis Wood allowed one run in 22/3 innings as the starter, and Pedro Strop notched his third save.
At the plate
Kris Bryant homered and had two RBIs, tying Billy Williams' 1961 franchise mark for rookie homers (25). Jorge Soler also homered and Starlin Castro and Tommy La Stella drove in runs.
In the field
Catcher David Ross dropped a nice throw when Jhonny Peralta slid into him. Bryant's stab of Peralta's liner ended the seventh with two men on.
Key number
16 -- Bryant has 16 RBIs in his last 12 games at Wrigley Field.
