Sept. 01--The Chicago Cubs hope to complete one of their most memorable months in recent history with a victory Monday night over the Cincinnati Reds.
Manager Joe Maddon, who was somewhat concerned about how well his team would play in August, has been rewarded with a 19-8 record -- tied with the New York Mets and Pittsburgh for the best record.
A victory Monday would give the Cubs their first 20-win month since going 20-8 in August of 2008.
"I'm proud of our guys the way we've played the last month," Maddon said. "Let's finish it off properly tonight. I think for the most part, we're in good shape moving forward. But you got to be vigilant. Things can happen, and you got to be prepared for different things to occur, whether it's depth wise or rest wise."
